Workshop Description

This intensive online training workshop with supplemental asynchronous self-guided pre-learning will train clinicians in the implementation of Phonation Resistance Training Exercises (PhoRTE ™) to treat vocal aging (i.e., presbyphonia). PhoRTE ™ is a Level 1B voice therapy program to treat presbyphonia with two published prospective, randomized, and controlled clinical trials. The PhoRTE voice therapy program is guided by principles of exercise physiology and motor learning with a strong emphasis on understanding the values of successful aging to promote communication, socialization, and vocation in the older adult population. This training workshop utilizes Socratic case-based learning, live demonstrations, and virtual hands-on opportunities to train clinicians so they can immediately start implementing PhoRTE in their clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

Following completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify aspects of presbyphonia and the impact of aging on voice production
  2. Identify appropriate candidates to complete PhoRTE ™ voice therapy
  3. Perform vocal intensity measures for establishing PhoRTE ™ loudness targets
  4. Demonstrate the PhoRTE ™ intervention to achieve optimal outcomes in presbyphonia
