Beyond the Basics Part 2: Next Level PhoRTE® – Live in Sin City

Course Aims (PM)

  1. Explore respiratory-based treatment approaches to augment voice therapy for presbyphonia
  2. View and describe the various surgical management options available for glottic insufficiency
  3. Master outcome documentation to demonstrate success in PhoRTE® Voice Therapy

Course Description: Part 2 of this two-part, interactive course is for participants who have already completed the PhoRTE® voice therapy introductory training course (by February 16, 2024) and have the foundation for implementing PhoRTE® voice therapy with patients who have presbyphonia. This afternoon portion of the course will offer participants new opportunities for the use of PhoRTE® voice therapy in a variety of clinical populations. Register for one or both courses.

Pre-Requisite: Must have completed an introductory PhoRTE® training course since 2018 (live or asynchronously). The introductory PhoRTE® training course does not need to be completed prior to registering for this course but you must complete it by February 16th, 2024 to attend. Variable ASHA CEUs

Register for up to 0.7 ASHA CEUs, Intermediate, Professional (Pending Approval)

Attendance will be tracked by a sign-in sheet and we will document 0.3 (Part 1), 0.4 (Part 2), or 0.7 (Parts 1 & 2) for each attendee

Dr. Edie Hapner

CCC-SLP, F-ASHA

Dr Hapner, co-developer of PhoRTE Voice Therapy, has been a practicing clinician for over 40 years. She earned a PhD in speech and hearing science from Vanderbilt University in 2003. Dr Hapner was appointed the George W. Barber Jr Foundation Endowed Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She serves as the Co-Director of the UAB Voice Center and the Division Chief of Speech and Hearing in the Department of Otolaryngology at UAB. Dr Hapner is well known internationally for publications and presentations in care of the voice. She championed the voice centric Clinical Fellowship at Emory University in 2004 and has trained over 20 consecutive clinical fellows in voice and upper airway. Dr Hapner is actively involved with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association as a prior Board of Directors Vice President, SIG 3 Coordinating Committee member and Coordinator, and the Co-Chair of the ASHA Annual Convention 2020 and 2022.
