Needs Assessment

This course has been offered in person and online since 2018. It has demonstrated high evaluation scores and consistently garners 20+ participants per course. The course is now offered using an asynchronous methodology. This asynchronous training course on PhoRTE® implementation was derived from a previously recorded live, synchronous training via Zoom on July 8-9, 2022.

Audience Information

  • Target audience: speech-language pathologists who wish to begin competency for implementing PhoRTE® voice therapy or to improve PhoRTE® voice therapy implementation 
  • There is no prerequisite learning
  • Required material and supplies include a computer with an internet connection
  • To be eligible for ASHA CEUs in any given year, the course must be completed and all forms submitted by the end of November.  All video learning modules within the website and access is available for review anytime after purchase for up to 1 year. 
  • For those seeking ASHA CEUs for asynchronous PhoRTE® training, CEU information is sent to ASHA within 45 days of course completion and can take 15 days to appear on the ASHA CE registry. Therefore, it may take up to 60 days in total to appear on your ASHA CE registry.

Completion Requirements

What do I need to do to complete requirements and obtain a certificate of completion? 

To obtain a certificate of completion, you must: 

  • Watch all on-demand webinar modules 
  • Read the entire PhoRTE® Clinician Manual
  • Complete pre- and post-learning confidence self-assessments 
  • Complete a program evaluation 
  • Complete and submit all components by the end of the 1-year period for which the course is accessible.

Dr. Edie Hapner

CCC-SLP, F-ASHA

Dr Hapner, co-developer of PhoRTE Voice Therapy, has been a practicing clinician for over 40 years. She earned a PhD in speech and hearing science from Vanderbilt University in 2003. Dr Hapner was appointed the George W. Barber Jr Foundation Endowed Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She serves as the Co-Director of the UAB Voice Center and the Division Chief of Speech and Hearing in the Department of Otolaryngology at UAB. Dr Hapner is well known internationally for publications and presentations in care of the voice. She championed the voice centric Clinical Fellowship at Emory University in 2004 and has trained over 20 consecutive clinical fellows in voice and upper airway. Dr Hapner is actively involved with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association as a prior Board of Directors Vice President, SIG 3 Coordinating Committee member and Coordinator, and the Co-Chair of the ASHA Annual Convention 2020 and 2022.
